The Psychology of Color in Clothing

Colors unconsciously affect the mood of a person as they strike on the emotional side of people. Choosing the right colors on the right occasions will help set your mood and general outlook. In this article, thatshirt explained more about the psychology of color in clothing and how you can maximize the psychological benefits of colors on the clothes that you wear.

Mood Setting

Just like the aroma that triggers the sense of smell, colors play an important role when it comes to the sense of sight. It can make you appear strong and arrogant just like what the colors red and orange do. Since wearing strong colors make you feel dominant, you can easily portray the role of a leader to make people eagerly follow your commands. Strong colors make you appear superior without effortlessly doing so. Some people might see you as a tough person and might react as if you are always challenging them to do things. Knowing the best color of clothes to wear on a specific occasion will make life easier for you. Be careful though, because sometimes, colors can affect your own mood, too.

Decision Making

Ever noticed how the clothes in boutiques and clothing stores are arranged? There is something about how they display things so that your decision-making skills will be tricked to purchase the products that they want you to buy. Yes, they make things appear very suggestive, and seeing the colors of each item highlighted by its arrangement helps you look for the best item for you. It’s not just because it is your favorite color but because the order on how it was presented brings out the beauty in each piece of clothing. Clothes in shopping stores are usually placed in the right place and at the right time for you to make the right choice.

Healing Benefits

Every color has its healing correspondence. Most people are unaware of the fact that simply choosing the color of clothes to wear can tell a lot about a person. Aside from personal preference, part of the brain signals the body on what to do and how to react based on the color that was sent to the brain. It stimulates certain parts of the brain that will facilitate the healing process of the human body emotionally and manifest physically. Many years ago, people used colors to cure certain illnesses. If you have anxiety and often feel nervous, you can use the color blue to soothe and calm yourself. Migraines are believed to be cured by simply staring at the yellow color.

Colors and clothes are both representations of what we are and who we think we are. Good choice of colors and clothes can make or break your day. It is a silent statement of your current state. The colors and clothes speak for you and the best example of this are custom t-shirts of your choice, so make sure to grab the one that will leave a perfect impression of your whole being.

Can Vitamins Help Improve One’s Mental Health?

Mental health is a common problem for most people and is usually associated with symptoms of anxiety and depression. The best and most effective way to boost your mental health is by taking vitamin b12 supplement and natural supplements. Although one can get these benefits by eating food rich in vitamins, supplements are more appropriate for individuals suffering from chronic health issues.
Below are some advanced versions of classic vitamins which have been proven to have mood-boosting properties and help with mental health.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

According to the National Institute of Health, Omega 3 fatty acids aid with cognitive functioning, cardiovascular health, cancer prevention and neurodevelopment in children. Besides that, these supplements have been found to have mood boosting properties. The two types of Omega 3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, influence neurotransmitter function and aid with cell membrane fluidity. Additionally, research shows that EPA improves Depression Scores.

B Vitamins

A recent study has shown that B Vitamins, including vitamin B12 and B9, are essential for maintaining optimal mental health. Findings show that these vitamins can help alleviate symptoms of depressed mood, alcohol abuse, cognitive impairment and schizophrenia.
When taking vitamin B9 for folate deficiency, it is advisable to look for the active form. This is more effective since it is more probable to cross the blood-brain barrier. It is also crucial to ensure that you do not get Vitamin B12 deficiency when using folate acids as this can cause fatigue and mood changes.

Magnesium is a nutrient that can be found in kale, spinach, yogurt, almonds and pumpkin seeds. Magnesium plays important roles in our bodies including muscle contraction, nerve transmission, cell and bone development, nerve transmission, energy production and nutrient

Various studies have shown that decreased magnesium levels is likely to increase the cortisol and adrenaline levels which are caused by stress. Its effects on the neuronal cell membrane fluidity make it crucial for moderating depression.

S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe)

SAMe is a chemical made naturally in the body and is concentrated in the brain and liver. It boosts the production of neurotransmitters that are involved in mood regulation. A 2010 study showed that when SAMe supplements were used with antidepressants, the depressive symptoms improved. When used on their own, the supplements work best as older tricyclic antidepressants.
Although combining SAMe with antidepressants is safe, in some instances, it may lead to serotonin syndrome which causes anxiety, agitation, confusion, nausea, and vomiting. SAMe in itself can trigger mania and hypomania in people suffering from bipolar disorder.

Probiotics are living microorganisms and bacteria that aid in relieving digestive disorders. Besides that, probiotics play an important role in mental health as it influences the production of neurotransmitters and depression. Research suggests that there is a bidirectional relationship between the brain and the gut.

Zinc is a crucial element that helps with the regulation of many synaptic processes, and its deficiency is linked with mental illness. A 2017 study found that using Zinc supplements was effective for treating depression.

Being a precursor for serotonin, Tryptophan is a crucial amino acid that helps in the production of neurotransmitters. Tryptophan deficiency leads to insufficient production of neurotransmitters which help with depression.
These supplements are effective for treating mental health issues like anxiety and depression as well as other conditions like mood swings which is related to premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Alternatively, you can take foods rich in Tryptophan such as nuts, eggs, cheese, tofu and salmon.

The above natural supplements will play vital roles in enhancing your mental health and boosting your mood. Although they are effective when taken as single supplements, it is highly recommendable to consume healthy diets that are rich in these vitamins. With time, you will realize that your mood will start to improve and your symptom relief will get a boost.

Ways to Lose Fat Which is Caused by Stress

Everyone experiences stress. Research says that it is unavoidable. Unfortunately, research has also stated that stress and weight gain are very closely related. This means that if we are not careful, stress can lead to additional pounds of fat; this is possible even with proper diet and regular exercise because stress largely affects our hormones, which in return, controls our actions.

However, there is no reason for you to be alarmed. Healthy weight loss is always possible as long as you write up a good plan and work hard to stick with it. Below, New Jersey Center for CoolSculpting has compiled a list of some healthy practices that you can incorporate into your routine in order to reduce stress and quash stress-related weight gain.

Allocate Time to Destress

The first step towards losing weight gained through stress is to destress! Different people have different ways of relieving stress, so it will help if you tremendously stick to practices that work well with you or your lifestyle. However, inhaling donuts and chips to get rid of stress is definitely out of the question.

A few ways to get rid of stress is to have a good exercise and diet plan that is neither too restrictive nor too tiring. While self-control is important and plays a large part in your weight loss journey, stressing yourself out by being overly attentive to calorie count and doing exercise routines that are too rigorous will counteract your efforts.

Sit down, take a deep breathe, and take some time to smell the flowers. Ease your mind through meditation, or even simply sitting in a quiet space for some time, and you will find yourself not only seeing clearer but also feeling lighter.

We don’t mean indulge as in eat every candy bar in sight and eat every single food item that pops into your head. What we mean by indulging is taking the time to, once in a while, give in to the cravings that stress inevitably makes you feel.

Keep in mind that it is okay to take a bite of a cookie or have a piece of cake every once in a while. Just as long as you keep your intake moderated, you will not have too much trouble.

If you find that your self-control is lacking when it comes to helping you avoid binging your comfort foods, practice restraint not by cutting foods out completely but by simply buying less of it or making it less available to you. For example, if you find that you often finish entire boxes of cookies, then you can skip keeping a box at home in the first place. Store one cookie away for a rainy day, and you will thank yourself for it later.

Try CoolSculpting

If you are crunched for time, CoolSculpting is a stress-free alternative to losing weight and keeping a good figure amidst pressure and deadlines. This method works through non-invasive fat freezing which is a completely safe and FDA-approved procedure.

Stress-related weight gain is almost unavoidable, especially in the world today. However, keeping these tips in mind will help you minimize the damage that stress can do.

Mental Health Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Varying circumstances see people suffering from mental health conditions including depression, severe anxiety, and mild stress just to mention a few. In an attempt to deal with such mental issues, visiting varying doctors and trying different prescriptions become the order of the day.

Given the difficulty in pinpointing the exact mental health issue, the approach takes time. Sometimes doctors at Midtown NYC chiropractor try a different prescription to fish out the underlying problem. Trying many drugs without success not only discourages the patients but also consumes their time and money while exposing them to a myriad of side effects.

Furthermore, given the nature of mental health conditions, taking a natural and holistic approach should be on top of your list. This is where chiropractors come in. Here is a look at three mental health benefits of chiropractic care.

Relieves Chronic Pain

Many are the times when you incur mental health issues due to other concerns such as chronic pain. That pain could be a result of an injury. With such pain, you may be unable to do what you usually do and be a part of the social circles. Such instances tend to stress you up, and if it is not dealt with in good time, they can cause mental health issues such as mild stress or worse, depression.

Chiropractors help by identifying the root cause of such chronic pain. A natural and holistic approach is then put in place to eliminate or reduce the chronic pain, putting your mind at ease and consequently reducing the chances of significant mental health ailments.

Improves Spine Alignment

The nervous system is responsible for our body’s chemistry from the brain to other organs. For the nervous system to work correctly, your spine needs to be aligned. This is to say that a misaligned spine causes pressure to the point that your brain is neurologically and chemically disturbed, creating a mental health issue. Chiropractors identify misaligned spines and correct them naturally without any prescription drugs.

Alleviates Mind-Clouding Pain

The day-to-day activities in our lives expose the body to a variety of strenuous features such as back pain from prolonged sitting. In time, it could result in pain or even injuries. Taking over-the-counter medication is usually what you’d first opt for to deal with the pain, but it is not as effective as the holistic chiropractic approach.

In the long-run, your body gets used to the medications, and taking them will not alleviate the pain anymore. From there going forward, stress and depression are on the horizon as the pain keeps going. Before getting to that stage, visit a chiropractor and enjoy the pain alleviation technique that will leave you fresh and good to go. Without the pain, your mental health and mood will be at the finest spot.

Chiropractors enhance mental health by facilitating good blood and nutrient flow throughout the body by eliminating nerve blockages. With sufficient blood and nutrients, the brain is well fed and does not strain to perform effectively. Such are the mental health benefits of chiropractic care that go beyond the mind; it serves the whole body.

Hair Stylists Trained to Spot Signs of Domestic Abuse in Clients

In the UK, 1 out of 4 women from the age of 16 experience domestic abuse, and the numbers continue to rise to this day.  That is why any new means to fight this violence happening in homes are always welcome.

Meanwhile, in the state of Illinois, legislators passed a law requiring salon professionals to be trained to spot signs of domestic abuse on their clients.

The goal is to train over 88,000 cosmetologists in the span of two years. Which has many jumping at the opportunity. At the helm of this campaign are domestic violence advocacy groups from the city of Chicago.  One of these groups is called Says No More.  They’re the ones who pioneered the said training program for cosmetologists.

This innovative way of fighting domestic abuse takes advantage of the close relationship between the stylists and their clients.  The one-hour long training is called Listen.Support.Connect.  It won’t make them experts right away in detecting signs of domestic violence and they aren’t required to report to authorities and be held liable.  The main aim is to raise awareness of this serious issue affecting our women.

At the very least, this campaign will give the victims of domestic abuse an outlet and a means to get in touch with a support group.  Their close relationship with their stylists is the answer.  The salon provides a safe place for these women, and give them even just a glimpse of hope that someday, they will be rescued from their torment.  Just this one simple solution is enough of a catalyst for big change in our society.

Because of this law, the fight against domestic abuse has gone one step further into raising awareness, and what could be a better place to launch this initiative than the salon, where women from all walks of life come together and bond. Because of this, it will be easier to notice that something isn’t right.

Joan Rowan is a hairstylist who owns two salons in the state of Illinois.  She said that she’s been training her staff how to spot the signs of domestic abuse on their customers.  She also mentioned that at times, her clients would tell her their stories about what happens inside their homes, and sometimes, when they end up sharing too much, they wouldn’t come back anymore out of fear and embarrassment.  Sometimes, these women just don’t know what to do to escape the situation they’re in.

She’d sometimes notice the bumps on the head of one of her clients during a shampoo and hair care treatment.  Oftentimes, the customer would wave it off with another “bumped my head on the door” excuse.

The most important takeaway from this is the support channel for the victims and to give them the access to anyone who could rescue them.  It could be as simple as exchanging numbers with the client and in extreme cases, get them to a shelter that has all the means of protecting them.

These types of innovation in combating domestic violence is revolutionary and promising, but until awareness is raised and funds are allocated for the protection of our women, we can only hope for a better tomorrow.

How can Dental Hygienists Help Patients who are Victims of Domestic Violence?

Dental hygienists generally look out for their patients’ oral health such as checking to see if they need to get a dental implant or not. However, they can extend their help further by assisting patients who are victims of domestic violence.

They can, in fact, check to see their patients’ psychological wellbeing and see if they are undergoing some emotional trauma. Digital Smile Academy’s dentistry abroad can also help check for physical signs that indicate abuse and violence.

Going through domestic violence awareness educates the dentist on how to intervene on behalf of a victim. Below are some ways dental hygienists can help patients who are victims of domestic violence.

Understanding What Is Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is an aggressive behavior within the home setting. It involves a violent spouse, partner, or parent. The victim may be an elderly person or a child. Domestic violence rarely occurs as a single incident. There are many different types of domestic violence – physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial abuse.

Identifying The Signs

During a dental appointment, the dental hygienist can observe the patient to identify the signs early enough in many opportunities. Before the appointment begins, the patient should fill out a health history card. During this time, the dental hygienist can incorporate some questions that will help them to identify the victims of abuse. Below is a list of signs that can indicate that the patient is going through domestic violence:

The patient is extremely nervous when the dental hygienist is performing a head and neck exam.

There are bruises on the body that are in different healing stages.

The story the patient gives about how they got the injury does not match the nature of the injury.

The patient’s spouse insists on being into the examination room while the patient is being examined.

The patient is putting on clothes that are not appropriate for the weather.

The Role of the Dental Hygienist

Immediately after the dental hygienist notices that the patient is going through an abuse, they should talk to him or her. Explain their concerns to the patient. Be honest with the patient and be a good listener. Listen and think critically about what the patient has said.

If the patient admits that they are being abused, contact the relevant authorities and check with the appropriate state rules to determine the legal obligation of the dental hygienist.  Everything should be documented to be used as evidence – the observations made by the dental hygienist, the discussion with the patient, and any other useful information.

Not all injuries are because of domestic violence. What may seem as physical abuse may just turn out to be injuries from being constantly clumsy, or the adult patient may be afraid of dental visits, which is why their spouse is in the same room as them. Ensure that you have all the facts confirmed first before you make a claim to the authorities about the abuse.

Domestic violence awareness is important to dental hygienists. It is not only their legal obligation to report any incident of violence but also a moral responsibility in general.

Ketogenic Diet: Can It Help with Depression?

Depression is one of the trending issues nowadays. It is a mental illness that is, more often than not, being disregarded by many. However, there has been a lot of casualties for this. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed.

Apparently, one of the viewed causes of depression is the diet of a person. The foods you consume can have a contribution to the feeling of being left out, alone, and not being enough. Of course, there are a lot of phenomena that would trigger depression, but it is also equally important to note that you can take one step at a time. For now, you can focus on the benefits of ketones for your diet.

Thankfully, there are scientific studies being conducted to counter depression. One of those is to enter into a ketogenic diet. Read on to know more about it.

What Is a Ketogenic Diet?

Ketogenic diet is a kind of diet that is high in fats but low in carbohydrates. Since you will be taking more fats than carbohydrates, your body will also change the source of energy from carbs to fats. There are a lot of health benefits one can get from this kind of diet.

How Ketogenic Diet Helps with Depression

Sugar Intake

With a ketogenic diet, you can have less sugar intake. If you haven’t realized it yet, too much sugar in your body causes sugar rush. This is a feeling of being momentarily hyper which will then crash to crankiness. The lack of energy that follows can lead to depression. Ketogenic diet helps you get rid of sugar rush.

Perhaps you have been preferring to eat foods that are high in carbohydrates. Apparently, ketogenic diet will force you to get rid of those. Instead, you will be encouraged to have foods which are high in fats. Fats stored will be the source of energy for your body and mind.

Ketogenic diet promotes a positive effect on your mood. This can absolutely help you with the feelings of depression. You wouldn’t have to feel miserable or alone as it enhances your good mood and induces happiness with the increased endorphin levels.

Balancing of the Brain

Your brain is tasked to maintain the balance of neurotransmitters. From what it looks like in the perspective of an expert, your brain has a neurotransmitter that seems to make you feel down, and there is also one that makes you feel excited. Your brain has to balance these as they totally affect its functions as well.

Too much of one of them could lead to neurotoxicity which causes seizures. When your brain can balance these two, you can avoid depression as it has been linked with neurotoxicity.

Taking a ketogenic diet gives you these benefits. You must consider having it as soon as possible in order to get rid of depression and just live life to the fullest. There is no time to waste. Start your ketogenic diet for a healthier mind and body.

CBD for Anger Management

When was the last stressful situation you’ve encountered? Did you lose your cool? I used to work in tech support, so you can imagine how often my patience and self-control was tested during those years. Luckily, I didn’t end up having to punch someone’s face. Nevertheless, the worst that I’ve experienced so far was being in a shouting match with a client. I regretted that later on because I lost that job a few weeks later. Looking back, I wish I was more in control of my emotions.

To complement the traditional anger management solutions like stress balls, mantras, and breathing techniques, we now have the Cannabidiol or more popularly known as CBD oil.

Anger is normal but when gotten out of control, it can lead to hostility, violent rage and destruction. With this, there’s no denying that anger control issues are a serious matter.

The Scientific Cause of Extreme Anger

The main reason why some of us can’t control our anger is the chemical imbalance in our brain caused by stress or pain. One such chemical in our body is the Catecholamine.

The NCI Dictionary of Cancer Terms defines Catecholamine as a type of neurohormone (a chemical that is made by nerve cells and used to send signals to other cells). It is responsible for stress responses. Too much or too few of it leads to anger control issues. Here are the three types of Catecholamine and the effects of imbalance.

CA Type Main Function Effects of High Count Effects of Low Count
Dopamine Motor control and emotional learning and response Brain overload – difficult to process information Difficulty in thinking and focus
Epinephrine -Adrenaline drive released in times of stress

-Regulates metabolism, sleep, and heart rate

-Difficulty in recovering from illness

Norepinephrine Improves memory and focus and overall mood -same symptoms as the manic episodes associated with Bipolar Disorder -difficulty in focusing

What Is CBD Oil and How Can It Help Me?

Simply put, CBD oil is a concentrated liquid extracted from the Marijuana plant. Once taken, it will regulate the inconsistencies and the chemical imbalance in the brain. Aside from that, it also helps reduce pain by raising the levels of (AEA) or Anadamide, a chemical responsible for regulating pain. High AEA equals less pain because less pain also means less irritability.

How Legit Is CBD Oil’s Claims?

Many studies have already been conducted, but the most compelling one so far was done by a group of researches namely, Khalid A. Jadoon, Garry D. Tan, and Saoirse E. O’ Sullivan.

In the randomized test, they gave a 600-milligram dose of CBD and placebo to 9 healthy male volunteers. Afterwards, they were given a series of stress tests involving math without the use of calculators while their cardiovascular outputs were monitored.

The discovery was that a single dose of CBD reduces systolic blood pressure and stroke volume.

Now that we know how CBD oil helps us control our anger, it is up to you now to make the leap towards a more effective anger management technique and a calmer mind even in the face of most stressful moments. You are supposed to be the master of your own body. Regain control with CBD oil.

CBD as A Treatment for People with PTSD

Treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is generally costly. People with PTSD tend to go to professionals to get treated and then will likely have to take several medicines for interventions. With the advent of new research, experiments are being set up to test whether Cannabidiol (CBD) helps in treating PTSD or worsens the condition.

CBD as A Treatment

There are many reviews about people’s experience in using CBD oil in treating various health problems. Some of which are tested in the laboratory while others are just being used by people directly from the marijuana plant. According to research released by Joy Organics the CBD oil experts, it contains the concentration of cannabinoids, it is not psychoactive unlike the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Therefore, it does not change the state of mind of the person when it is used.

Treating People with PTSD Using CBD Oil

When a person’s mental health condition is triggered by a terrifying event, it may cause an alarming symptom for having PTSD. Symptoms may include flashbacks, uncontrollable thoughts about the event, nightmares, or severe anxiety. When the symptoms last for more than a month, it will directly affect the day-to-day functioning of a person. CBD has been proven to be effective in treating stress and anxiety. It can’t be denied that CBD oil will likely alleviate the problems of people experiencing PTSD. Here are the reasons why:

Prevents Nightmares

One study published in CNS Neuroscience & Therapeutics suggest that cannabis helped in the reduction of nightmares’ intensity. Results also showed significant improvements of the quality of sleep and decreased daytime flashbacks and night sweats. It can, therefore, be generalized that CBD oil largely helps those patients alleviate PTSD, anxiety disorder and other mental health problems though more research is needed.

Helps with Insomnia

Sleepiness is one of the side effects of taking cannabis. Therefore, people who experience insomnia, which is a symptom of having PTSD, may also benefit when treated with CBD. Moreover, to those people who have sleep apnea, a condition where a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep, they can also use CBD to improve their sleep as verified by the Canabo Medical Inc.

Reduces Anxiety

The most common expression of PTSD is chronic anxiety. People who experience chronic anxiety experience long-lasting nervousness and severe worrying and tension, making normal life difficult and relaxation impossible. Since cannabis contains cannabinoid that is known to reduce stress, enhance mood and fight the feeling of anxiety, it can be inferred that CBD oil helps fight PTSD.

Post-traumatic stress disorder can disrupt your whole life. With PTSD, your job, happiness, and health will surely be at stake. Getting timely help and support from people around you—your family, friends and relatives – may prevent PTSD. Moreover, CBD oil can be of great help in treating not only PTSD but also other related disorders that destroy the mental and overall well-being of a person.
