Is CBD Safe for Children?

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is known to be extracted from hemp. According to, Koality Medicinals, it has become one of the frequently used medications for treating children who suffer from hyper creativity and anxiety.

CBD can be found in chewing gums, though it is known that it doesn’t get one high.

Parents can obtain CBD from a chemist with  a doctor’s prescription, but most of the time, it is readily available. The doctor then prescribes a type of medication called Epidiolex to children who suffer from Dravet Syndrome and Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, two very lethal illnesses.

What is CBD?

  • Gummies – CBD can also be mixed in gummies, and parents are often advised to keep them away where children can’t see them. Since they taste like candy, they neutralize the bad taste in CBD oil.
  • Transdermal patches – CBD can get into the bloodstream via transdermal patches which allow the body to get some level of CBD.

Epidiolex is used in treating epilepsy. However, the medicine has some risks and side effects. Some of the side effects include general body weakness, infections, rashes, and diarrhea among children. The risk of using the drug may lead to depression, panic attacks, and agitation.


Studies show that the use of CBD oil to treat autism has reduced its effects significantly. Some of the side effects that come with it include lack of appetite and sleepiness. After about a month’s use, some symptoms of autism such as rage and seizures are significantly reduced.


CBD oil has not been truthfully known to treat anxiety. However, doctors can use it to treat other diseases such as social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

CBD has not been identified in treating ADHD, though some parents have indicated that their children have shown tremendous improvements after using CBD oil.

Risk of Using CBD Oil on Children

CBD is known to cause sleeplessness in children and lack of appetite. Parents are advised to keep children away from CBD oil unless otherwise stated.

CBD is legal in some states while illegal in others; hence it’s vital to check your local laws before deciding to administer it to your children. When choosing a CBD product, it’s essential to read the label carefully, know the product’s manufacturing, and know if the CBD levels on a product are verified in a trusted laboratory.
